He Vision S500 plug-in hybrid is just a concept at this stage, but it goes where the S400 dared not: fully electric operation. Granted, it is limited to just 18 miles on the juice, but the S400 can’t power itself an inch under electric power, unless it’s rolling down a hill. To achieve this, the S500 combines a 3.5-liter V-6 gas engine with a 60-hp electric motor and a 10-kWh lithium-ion battery. As for the vehicle itself, thanks to a direct-injection 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a 60hp/184 ft-lb electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, the car is capable of using just 3.2 liters of gasoline per 100 km – that’s 73.5 mpg.
